East Amherst resident and Williamsville East graduate Jason Tartick was named Geneseo State College's male student-athlete of the week for Sept. 17 to 23. Tartick, a sophomore business administration major, scored a goal and an assist in the 4-0 victory over Potsdam on Saturday.

The Wheatfield Women's Senior C tournament bound team is hosting tryouts for the 2007-2008 team from 5 to 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Amherst Pepsi Center, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive.

The Williamsville Freshman Commandos defeated the Niagara-Wheatfield Tom Cats, 27-6, on Saturday.

Quarterback Brendan Wynia led the offense while Commando tailback and offensive MVP Ben Noel scored twice behind the blocking of Mike Gentile, Austin Jones and Stephen Salem. Wing back Vincent Gregory added to the tally with a long touchdown run. Alex Binner and Hudson Milligan contributed to the score with extra point runs.

Defensive MVP Ryan Konotopskyj intercepted a pass and ran it back 37 yards for the final score of the game.
