Gandhi Day of Service to be held Saturday On Saturday, Sept. 29 the members of Indian Community in Western New York are going to celebrate the life of Mahatma Gandhi by uniting in a day of community service. The volunteers will be he providing services at the Food Bank of Western New York, Journeys End Refugee Center and Amherst Family and Youth Center. "This is our fourth Gandhi Day of Service. We are inviting members of all other communities in Western New York to join us in this event," said Pravin Suchak, one of the organizers of the event. "In this event, we have an opportunity, as a community, to honor one of the greatest leaders of our time. This is a wonderful way to continue Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of unity and community service. The spirit of Gandhi's words is alive more when spoken through actions." Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. on Sept. 29 at the Hindu Temple, 1595 N. French Rd., Getzville for registration before departing for various sites. Suchak encouraged high school and college students to use the opportunity to volunteer and receive a certificate of service.
