Dave Silver and Adam Martin were avid card collectors growing up.
The two even sold cards to help pay their way through college - University at Buffalo for Martin and Rochester Institute of Technology for Silver.
In 1991 the two friends went into business together, opening a small card store on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. Flash forward 16 years later and what once could have been considered a hobby for the two men has now grown into their own mini-sports memorabilia empire.
Their most recent achievement was the opening of their second Dave and Adam's Card World, located at 5575 Transit Road, near Klein Road.
"Things have changed drastically over the years, as the business has continued to grow since 1991," stated Silver and Martin in a letter to The Clarence Bee.
The two said the company currently operates out of a 26,000-square-foot custom office and warehouse facility in Amherst.
According to Silver and Martin, the Sheridan Drive store, near Niagara Falls Boulevard, opened in 1994 but has since more than doubled in size. And, in 2001, the men started their Web site www.dacardworld.com and have been shipping packages throughout the country.
"With this recent new store at Transit and Klein, we are showing our continued commitment to the area," they said.
Items that are sold at Dave and Adam's Card World include a wide selection of the newest Sabres and Bills jerseys and other apparel at low prices, according to the company.
Customers can also find au- thentic autographed memorabilia from many local players and other fan favorites, along with the area's best selection of trading cards and Webkinz.
The Transit Road location officially opened on Aug. 8, and Silver and Martin said business is going well, especially with the many special guests who appear at the location.
"Earlier this month a great many area residents came out to enjoy an on-site signing with Sabres Adam Mair and Patrick Kaleta," Silver and Martin said. "Andrew Peters and Nathan Paesch will be on-site signing autographs early in October, right after our huge tent sale, which runs through Oct. 2."

Silver and Martin said they decided to open the second location to better serve their customers who are from all areas of Western New York.
"Western New Yorkers travel from all over the region to shop with us," they said. "A second location allows us to better serve sports fans in Clarence, Williamsville and East Amherst."
And Silver and Martin are not stopping with this latest location either.
"We are currently considering opening a third store in the Lancaster/ Orchard Park vicinity," they said.
Silver and Martin both live in the Amherst area and are avid sports fans.
"You can find us at nearly every Bills and Sabres game," they said.
Both the Transit location and the Sheridan location, 2790 Sheridan Drive, Tonawanda, are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Transit Store manager is Jessica Walters who can be reached at 689-2273, while Sheridan Store manager Dave Zoerb can be reached at 837-4920.
