South field hockey improves record

Williamsville South field hockey improved its record to 3-1-1 with victories over Eden and East Aurora.

South beat Eden, 6-0, on Monday, Sept. 10. Sarah Hunt and Lauren Falzone led the Lady Billies with two goals apiece. Ashley Ferenczy and Shannon Martin added the other goals for South. Assists on the goals were credited to Kate Kurzanski, Ali Ferenczy, Shannon Martin and Hunt. Goalie Megan Hull recorded the shutout.

South followed the Eden win with a shutout over East Aurora. Falzone tallied a hat trick and leads the team with six goals. Senior captain Darragh Kerr scored two goals. Other goals for the Lady Billies were scored by Brittany Dworak, Shannon Martin and Ali Ferenczy.

Freshman Shannon Martin was the playmaker, tallying four assists. Other assists went to Ali Ferenczy and Kurzanski. Hull was in goal for her fourth shutout.

South dropped its last game of the week, a 2-0 decision at Holland last Friday.

Scoreless at halftime, the game was up and down the field with both teams having opportunities to score. At 18:01 into the second half Holland scored. South fought hard to battle back but came up short. With a minute remaining, Holland netted another goal.
