Lady Billies' lineup down, remain talented Williamsville South has 18 swimmers on this year's team who are ready for a good season. "Our team size is a little smaller than last year, but all eighteen seem to be really committed to getting better and are working really hard," said South coach Richard Grampp. "Last year, we never practiced over 5000 yards. This year, they are almost always swimming between five to six thousand yards. They have a great work ethic and attitude." Grampp returns several key swimmers who will contribute to the team's success. Back is junior Jenny Rogers, a Section VI finalist in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and sophomore Alaina Laszewski, a sectional finalist in the 100 fly and back. Grampp said sophomore Erin Rogers, a sectional swimmer in the 100 and 200 free last year, will need to take control of the 200 and 500 free events for the team. Grampp said freshman Bridgette Dix should also help out in the individual medley and 100 fly. Grampp said senior captain Jackie Jordan should be a great help in the sprints and senior captain Allie Ralbovsky should help solidify the backstroke. Grampp said Jordan and Ralbovsky are liked by all on the team and will be great leaders. "They both are always at practice and work really hard," he added. Senior Jessica Gordon (breaststroke) and sophomores Lindsey Darling (IM, fly) and Kate Mikoley (fly, free) will also help us in their selected events. Grampp said he doesn't set team goals, but hopes to get as many swimmers as they can to ECICs and sectionals. "That way, we know we all improved," said Grampp. "We also have a chance at breaking the school's 400 free relay record. On paper, it looks good, but paper doesn't get it done. They are going to have to step up all on the same day."
South finished 5-5 in 2006. |
