Witnesses sought in accident that injured bicyclist

The Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a serious injury accident on Sept. 12 when a bicyclist and a car collided at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and Bailey Avenue.

The accident, which occurred about 7:40 a.m., involved a 1985 Oldsmobile operated by Edward W. Sudik, 18, of Buffalo and a bicyclist identified as Janice J. Pope, 55, also of Buffalo.

According to police, Sudik was traveling east on Sheridan, and Pope, who was headed north on Bailey, was attempting to cross Sheridan.

She suffered serious injuries and was transported to Erie County Medical Center where she underwent surgery. An update was not available at press time.

Capt. Patrick McKenna is asking for any witnesses to the accident to call the Amherst police at 689-1355.
