CCA begins season 2-1

The Christian Central Academy varsity girls soccer team opened its season with a 3-1 loss to St. Mary's of Lancaster.

CCA scored first with a goal by defender Sarah Wade. St. Mary's tied the game before halftime and scored twice in the second half to gain the victory.

In its second game, CCA beat Cheektowaga, 3-1. CCA midfielder Faye-Lyne Noel netted the first goal with an assist from forward Alicia Fairclough. Noel scored a second time with an assist by Katie Smith. In the second half, Smith scored unassisted. Cheektowaga scored in the closing minutes, denying CCA a shutout.

CCA's third game ended with a 5-0 win against Niagara Catholic. CCA forward Fairclough tallied two goals. Other scores for CCA were by Megan Salzman, Smith and Sarah Caputi. Noel had three of the five assists. CCA's defense played tight throughout the match and helped CCA goalie Leanne Hoppe get her first season's shutout. Niagara-Catholic had only six shots on goal to CCA's 32.
