James R. McMath, 81, of Amherst, a retired Xerox salesman, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2007 in Hospice Buffalo.
Mr. McMath was a 1943 graduate of Hartsburg High School in Hartsburg, Ill.
After serving in the Marines in World War II, Mr. McMath received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Iowa.
Mr. McMath accepted employment with Caterpillar Tractor Company upon graduation and spent six years working in the accounting, advertising, training and sales departments. He also worked for Foley Tractor Company in Wichita, Kan., and Gale Products in Galesburg, Ill., before joining the Xerox Corporation in Buffalo as a salesman in 1963. Mr. McMath retired from Xerox in 2001.
Mr. McMath served as a volunteer for Amherst Meals on Wheels, Buffalo Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport information desk.
Mr. McMath was an active member of Amherst Community Church for 41 years and a member of the Amherst Rotary Club South.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the world and taking cruises down the Mississippi and the Rhine rivers.
Mr. McMath is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Emerson Winters; two sons, David and Mark; a daughter, Sara Ogborne; a brother, Robert, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 from Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Hwy.
