Community to help fight Alzheimer's disease on Sept. 29 In Western New York alone, there are more than 55,000 people with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. On Saturday, Sept. 29, residents of Erie County will gather at Delaware Park and the Buffalo Zoo in support of the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk. Money raised from the walk will support local programs and services for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, their families and caregivers. In addition to raising money for services, as well as national research efforts, Memory Walk brings people together to remember loved ones lost to Alzheimer's and to show public support for those affected by the disease. Central to all Memory Walks is food, music and entertainment geared toward the entire family and appearances by local celebrities such as Janet Snyder from KISS-FM and Mary Beth Wrobel from WIVB. There will also be gift raffles, including a football signed by Paul Posluszny of the Buffalo Bills, 50/50 split raffles and a Passport to Choose a Cruise raffle. Participants will receive Memory Walk T-shirts and other incentives based on the amount of money raised. Walk as an individual or start a team with friends, family or co-workers. To find out more information about the Genesee County Memory Walk, call the Alzheimer's Association at (800) 272-3900 or log onto www.alz.org/wny. |
