Daemen film series marks college's 60 years

The 2007-2008 Daemen College film series will mark the 60th anniversary of the college by showing "Films from Six Decades."

The commentator for each film will be Daemen College or Rosary Hill College alumnus.

The films, which run Monday evenings from 7:30 to 10:00, are scheduled as follows:

Sept. 17 - "The Conservationist" An Orwellian morality play and psychological thriller, which examines what happens when the spy is spied upon and technology is used against the user. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gene Hackman. Commentator: Claudia Pirri Nowak, class of 1974.

Oct. 22 - "Dr. Strangelove" The story depicts the absurdities of the nuclear arms race. A dark comedy featuring Peter Sellers and directed by Stanley Kubrick. Commentator: DeSales Hattenberger OSF, class of 1959.

Dec. 3 - "On the Waterfront" This is the quintessential, Oscar winning film about mob violence and corruption among longshoremen. Directed by Elia Kazan. Commentator: Dea McKenna McAuliffe, class of 1958.

Jan. 28 - "Who Stole the Electric Car" The eco-themed documentary addresses the broad history of the electric car and unmasks the players behind the car's death. Directed by Chris Paine. Commentator: Toby Beahan and Nicole Grabski, class of 2004.

Feb. 25 - "Chocolat" A woman and her daughter open a chocolate shop in a small, provincial French village and become the catalyst for change. The film examines prejudice and social enlightenment. Directed by Lasse Hallström. Commentator: Adriane Williams, class of 2001.

March 31 - "The Breakfast Club" A cult classic, the film explores the stereotypes, friendships and preconceived judgements associated with adolescence. Written and directed by John Hughes and starring the "Brat Pack" of the 1980's. Commentator: Karen Cuddy Miller, class of 1987.

All films in the Daemen Film series will be shown in the Alumni Lounge of the Wick Center on Daemen's campus, 4380 Main St., Amherst.
