Quality of life important to Kindel

Quality of life means many things to many people. For some, it means being able to enjoy Amherst's many natural resources, especially its preserves and parks.

For others, it means having access to great schools, affordable housing and walkable neighborhoods at an affordable price. But for all of us, it requires independent minded politicians who fight for our values.

That's why I'm supporting Bill Kindel for another term on the Amherst Town Board.

Bill is balanced in his decision making abilities. For example, he has consistently voted to keep Amherst green. That's why he recently received the endorsement of the Sierra Club, the oldest and largest environmental organization in America. And he's done this while supporting reasonable commercial development that has contributed precious tax revenue.

Bill also knows how to get things done. Editor

When the Town Board found no alternative but to cut local volunteer fire department funding, Bill came to the rescue. And when ill-conceived Amherst Police Department budget cuts appeared imminent, he crafted a financial solution that did not increase taxes.

We need elected officials who understand the needs of business and are willing to critically analyze policy decisions. We also need policymakers who are not afraid to challenge the system.

Bill Kindel embodies these strengths, which were demonstrated in his efforts that turned the Pepsi Center into a profit center. They also are reflected in his unyielding drive to make Amherst an even better place to live.

That's why I urge voters to support Bill for another term on the Amherst Town Board.
