Parks closed for storm cleanup

The Town of Amherst will intermittently be closing parks and trails to clean up damage from the October 2006 storm.

Residents, joggers and golfers are being advised that during the next few weeks there will be tree crews working in and along parks, golf courses and trails.

Signs will be posted at the entrances to let the public know when work is taking place. Sections of the parks and trails will be closed for short periods of time, but the golf courses will remain open while work is being completed.

The first phase started Tuesday at Amherst State Park, Canal Way Trail and Walton Woods Park and Trail. Work on those parks is expected to last for the remainder of this week.

Approximately 20 to 25 parks and trails will be cleaned up. Several hundred trees will be reviewed and trimmed of hanging limbs. Some may be removed.

Signs will be posted a day prior to work beginning, informing residents not to use the park or trail the next day.

Information on closures is available on the Town Web site, www. amherst. ny. us.
