Sept. 11 victims to be honored The victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will be remembered at two separate services next week in Amherst. A tribute will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 in front of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St. The event will be sponsored by the Amherst Fire Chiefs Association. All community organizations are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Paul Griebner at 570-5999. The Town of Amherst will sponsor a ceremony at Memorial Hill Grove along the Ellicott Creek Trailway at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. The Ceremony of Remembrance will include a musical performance by members of the U.Army Band, participation by the Amherst Police Department Honor Guard and members of Amherst's uniformed services, as well as the reading of names of the Sept. 11 victims from Western New York. A remembrance vigil will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at the American Red Cross, 786 Delaware Ave. at Summer Street, Buffalo. Three thousand miniature American flags will be on display outside the building from Wednesday, Sept. 5 through Thursday, Sept. 13. The Sept. 9 vigil will include music and readings. | |||||
