The Lou Gehrig 12-year old Red team earned the Cal Ripken Western District and Western New York State Championship titles in recent competition.

In the districts at Lancaster's Westwood Park, the team went 3-0. Canandaigua was the host for the New York State tournament, in which the team went undefeated again to advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Bridgewater, N.J.

The team, hallmarked by timely power hitting and crisp defensive play, continued to be quite competitive in the regional tournament, posting a record of 2-2 in close games. The Lou Gehrig squad was the only team in the tournament to defeat host Bridgewater, who eventually advanced to the Cal Ripken World Series where they were semifinalists.
