Thruway Authority provides recycling containers

The New York State Thruway Authority is implementing a program to provide recycling containers for glass, plastic, newsprint and aluminum cans, at Thruway Travel Plazas.

The containers, made from 100 percent recycled plastic, were placed at six of the busiest Thruway Travel Plazas on Aug. 17.

"Protecting and promoting the environment is a priority of the authority," said Michael R. Fleischer, executive director of the Thruway Authority

The six travel plazas included in the first phase of this program are: Sloatsburg, New Baltimore, Guilderland, Pattersonville, Warners and Pembroke.

The Authority has also begun the process to place recycling containers in the remaining 21 Travel Plazas.

Informational brochures on recycling will also be available inside each travel plaza. For more information on the Authority's environmental stewardship efforts, please visit www.nysthruway.gov/environmental/ index.html.
