Rotary donates to PolioPlus Program The Eastern Hills Sunrise Rotary Foundation presented Rotary district governor Robert Leek with a $1,000 check to support the Rotary International PolioPlus program. Rotary's top philanthropic goal is to eradicate polio worldwide, according to a press release from the foundation. Since establishing its PolioPlus program in 1985, Rotary members have helped to immunize more than 2 billion children in 122 countries and have contributed more than $500 million toward a polio-free world. The press release states that more than 300 volunteers have recently traveled from around the world to countries in Africa and South Asia to join in the global fight to eradicate polio. These volunteers - all members of Rotary - participated in National Immunization Days. They administered the drops of oral polio vaccine to children, delivered the vaccine to remote villages and educated families on the importance of protecting children against polio. Rotary Club president Andy MacDonald presented the check to Leek, district governor of Rotary District 7090, which covers Western New York and Southern Ontario, Canada. The Eastern Hills Sunrise Rotary Club raised the funds for this donation through the Club's not-for-profit organization, the Eastern Hills Sunrise Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club meets Wednesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Country Club on Shimerville Road.
