Season's first rehearsal set

The Amherst Male Glee Club, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, will hold an open rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the choral room of Amherst High School, 4301 Main St.

Men of all ages, who have choral experience and would like to join the 60-member chorus, to attend this first rehearsal of their new season are invited.

Walter Reitz, producer-director of the club's popular Red Blazer Varieties show at the high school each spring, said "The club is always looking for new men to provide new life and enthusiasm to the organization, " said Walter Reitz, producer and director of the club's popular Red Blazer Varieties show held at the high school each spring.

This season's show will be staged on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 3-5.

Reitz noted that the club has several members in their 20s as well as men who have been in the club almost as long as he has and also includes men from all fields of endeavor who just enjoy singing and entertaining.

"We have lawyers, engineers, educators, and factory workers; anyone who loves to sing and perform."

In addition to the annual Red Blazer show, which regularly attracts 3,000 patrons each year, the club also performs at retirement homes, churches and for various organizations, bringing joy to audiences throughout the area.
