Green space is about quality of life
Regarding last week's letter from Stephen Hunt: "Green Space not good for business," green space is not meant to be good for business.

Not everything must equate to dollars and cents when viewing the quality of life in a community.

Perhaps the most successful economical use of property is oil refining. After all, Americans use their right foot to disburse more than 4 million barrels a day, with oil company quarterly profits more than $18 billion. Yet this does nothing to preserve the quality of our decaying environment.

While it is true that more money can be "made off" the property through development, William Kindel's plan is a vision of environmental quality and preservation of Amherst's beautiful open space. Many cities have learned too late there are better uses of land than cement, paving and utility poles. Preservation of open green space will maintain the natural beauty of Amherst. Its value is not measured in dollars.

I fully agree with Stephen's figures and conclusion. However let us remember the intrinsic value of open space trust and the lasting value it will provide Amherst residents in terms of quality of life.
