Hilbert College names provost

Holoman
Amherst resident Christopher Holoman, Ph.D., has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Hilbert College.

His appointment, which was effective Aug. 15, was announced by Hilbert President Cynthia Zane, Ed.D. Holoman had been served as interim vice president since 2006.

"His strong commitment to Hilbert's Catholic Franciscan mission, academic excellence, assessment, shared governance, and the value of collegiality and openness will make him a strong leader," Zane said. "Dr. Holoman played a major role in the development of the college's new five-year strategic plan, Destination 2012."

As Hilbert's chief academic officer, Holoman will be responsible for leading faculty and oversee the operations of the college's McGrath Library, student records, academic support services, and institutional research.

Holoman, an authority on international relations, politics and trade, came to Hilbert in 1999 as a professor of political science. He's authored articles on international policy and politics in scholarly journals and co-authored a textbook on politics.

He's is a member of the American Political Science Association and the International Studies Association and a past board member of Buffalo/Niagara World Connect.

Holoman received master's and doctorate degrees in political science from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
