TWO MORE WEEKS - On Monday it came to my attention that the public hearing for the Maple Road project had been moved to Sept. 4. At the time I wrote the article, headlined "Theater, restaurants, shops - Public hearing Aug. 20 for Maple Road," for the Aug. 15 edition, the public hearing had been set for this past Monday. Calling around to various parties involved I learned I wasn't the only person mistaken. A bit of confusion occurred somewhere in the process, which has been a recent trend in Amherst town government. I couldn't get a straight answer as to when the change occurred but learned, too late, that it had. Anyone wishing to comment on the proposal should return for the Tuesday, Sept. 4 meeting.

GRANTS AVAILABLE - Verizon Wireless is seeking grant proposals for domestic violence prevention and education projects in the Buffalo area. Qualifying nonprofit organizations are invited to apply for a $7,500 grant, made possible through the company's HopeLine phone recycling program. The grant is one of 13 competitive grants totaling $57,500 that the company is awarding across upstate New York. The grant is being offered to enable agencies, shelters and other domestic violence advocacy groups to introduce or expand programs, add equipment or enhance facilities to better serve clients. The recipient of the grant will be announced in October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Project proposals must be postmarked or e-mailed by Sept. 14. To qualify for funding, an applicant must be designated a public or private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a valid Internal Revenue Service tax ID based in Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee or Wyoming counties. For an application and additional information, call 585-321-7264. For store locations and additional information, visit www. verizonwireless. com/ hopeline.

TEAM CURE - Roswell Park Cancer Institute and its Team Cure Challenge program is seeking persons 18 and older to raise funds and run, walk, swim or cycle in national athletic events on behalf of cancer patients.

Customized training, airfare, hotel accommodations, nutrition tips, transportation and registration fees are provided by the program to all participants who meet the Team Cure fundraising goal - participants need provide only spirit and stamina. During the past three years, Team Cure Challenge participants have raised more than $340,000 for lifesaving cancer research and compassionate patient care programs at Roswell Park. This year, participants will again have the opportunity to join the Orlando Challenge. The event is from Jan. 12-13 at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and features the following choices: a full marathon course that winds through all four Walt Disney World theme parks, a half-marathon, Disney's Family Fun Run 5K and Kids' Races.

Training sessions for both Challenges have already begun, but new participants can still join the team by attending an information session on one of the following dates: Wednesday, Nov. 7; Monday, Nov. 12; Tuesday, Jan. 9 or Wednesday, Jan. 16.

For information sessions or to support one of this year's Team Cure Challenge participants through a secure online pledge, visit www.TeamCure.com or call Robin Hace at 845-4100.
