Clarence Swim Club scores at championship meets

Swimmers from Clarence Swim Club participated in the Long Course Junior Olympics and the Empire State Games. Both meets require qualifying times and/or time trials to enter. Both meets resulted in several new club records and personal-best times for all who swam.

10 and under division

Andrew Cahalane brought out the best for his 50 and 100-yard breaststroke races, placing second in each and dropping 8.96 seconds between the two. He reset his old club record in the 100 breast. Cahalane also swam a powerful 50 free.

Hannah Johnston achieved an "A" level swim with her gutsy 10th place gold time in the 100 free. Johnston also dropped over five seconds in the 100 back.

John Lee achieved an "AA" time in his third place 50 back race and "A" times in the 100 back (sixth place) and 50 free (third place). Lee also swam gold times in the 100 free (seventh) and third place silvers in the 50 and 100 fly. The 100 fly performance brought Lee rights to a new club record.

11-12 year olds Sarina Featherstone had an impressive 5.39 second drop in her 100 free and a 1.54 second drop in the 50 free. Silver times were also snatched in the 50 and 100 back.

Kendra Mayer glittered gold on her way to personal-best times in every race over the weekend. Her third place finish in the 50 free finals gave Mayer her first "AAA", Eastern Zone qualifying time. Other events included the 400 free (ninth place, "A"), 100 free (fourth place, "AA"), 200 free (seventh, "A"), 50 and 200 back. Mayer will compete at the Eastern Zone Championship meet in Buffalo in early August. The meet brings together qualifying athletes from Maine through Virginia to Western New York and Pennsylvania.

Christina Seminara brought home gold in the 50 free and placed fifth in the 100 fly. Seminara tossed aside a total of 5.6 seconds in her efforts.

Allison Voll had "AA" swims in the 50 (sixth place), 100 (fifth), and 200 back (sixth). Voll also dropped a solid 1.03 seconds in the 100 free and brought the team points in the 200 IM.

Claire Willis swam personal best times in all events. One highlight was her sixth place "A" level 200 free final, where she tossed 4.12 seconds off her previous best. The effort brought Willis a new club record. Other gold times were her "A" level 50 and 100 free. Willis also dropped 3.72 seconds combined in her 50 and 100 back.

15 and older

Andrew Barden had an outstanding "AA", gold performance in the 200 IM, setting a new senior club record. He was also strong in his 13th place "A" time 800 free race, dropping 12.89 seconds. Barden also boasted best times in the 50 and 100 free and 100 breast.

Neil Batta drove in the 50 and 100 freestyle races with solid "AA", gold level best times. Batta worked the 100 back as well.

Jon Beabout continued his gold ways, improving his "A" level 200 free and 200 IM times. The 12th place in the 200 free reset Beabout's own club record.

Chris Dugan deleted 8.71 seconds from his previous best times over the course of the weekend. His sensational silver performances included the 50, 100, and 200 free, the 100 and 200 breast, and 200 IM.

Cami Farkas stroked her way to impressive times, starting with her "AA", 13th place gold level 200 free. Farkas now owns a new club record in this event. She followed that with "A" level gold swims in the 200 IM (12th place) and 100 fly (11th place).

Christa Gorenflo worked hard in the 100 and 200 breast, placing eighth in the 100.

Eric Kowalik looked particularly strong in his 100 and 200 free races, shedding more than four seconds between the two events. Kowalik also brought home silver in the 50, 400, and 800 free.

Tori Mayer gathered gold in her "A", gold level 100 fly swim, placing 13th. Mayer also snatched silver in the 200 IM and 200 free.

Danny Salvatore shone in every event by dropping an amazing total of 10.09 seconds. His 50 free was an "AA" gold time. Salvatore brought home silver in his 100 and 200 free and 100 fly.

Emilie Schachtner showcased her talents in the 800 free, tossing aside 18.98 seconds. She followed that up with solid swims in the 50 and 100 free and 100 back.

Adam Tou made his last long course meet before starting college memorable by annihilating 19.6 seconds from his previous bests. His "A" level 100 breast race was a gold time. The 50 and 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM races turned up silver.

Adam Weber wowed the crowd with his "AA" time in the 100 free. The 50 free brought another gold level performance. His 200 free and 100 and 200 back took a shine to silver.

New relay records were achieved in the 11-12 200 free relay by Kendra Mayer, Seminara, Voll, and Willis. The team of Weber, Barden, Beabout and Salvatore reined in a new 400 free relay club record. Batta, Dugan, Tou and Salvatore topped off their day with the club record for the 400 medley relay.

Empire State Games

At the Empire State Games, Jon Beabout brought home a solid eighth place finish in the senior 400 free and fourth place finish in the senior 800 free. The 800 free toppled the old CLSC record.

Bob Rutkowski showed his strength, finishing seventh with an "AA" time in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 breast with an "A" time. Both races left Rutkowski holding new CLSC records.
