The WNY Sting-Blue 14U girls fastpitch travel softball team will hold tryouts from 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 16 and 17 at Cheektowaga Central High School, 3600 Union Road. For more information, contact Irv Harrell (440-3914) or Mike Myszka (432-1015).

The Bennett High School Sports Hall of Fame has announced its inductees for 2007, who will enter the hall at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 in a ceremony at the school auditorium.

Tickets are available at the Main St. front door for $20 and include refreshments and a souvenir program. This year's inductees are athletes Michael Austin (Class of 1978), Vory Billups ('84), Levance Brown ('71), Mary Evanco-Caryk ('76), Theresa Friol ('81), Marvin Hemphill ('84), Lee Jones ('48), Robert Jones ('90), Roger Lowe ('51), Vincent McCarthy ('79), Bruce Mesches ('64), Special Achievement Award winner Art Serotte ('57), Earle Hannel Memorial Award recipient Emery Fisher ('45) and Girls' Sports Pioneers Karen Carr ('73), Kathleen Carr ('73) and Tamiko Thompson ('73).

Double T Archery Club, 1110 North French Road, Amherst, will be hosting for the public a Metric 600 Round starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. There will be a $10 entry fee. Junior Olympic Archery Development program shooters are welcome.

This shoot is open to classic recurve, compound freestyle and traditional shooters. There will be awards for all divisions. The round will consist of 20 arrows at each of three distances. Distances vary depending on the shooter's age and type of bow shot.

The Western New York Bulldogs travel baseball team will hold tryouts for the 2008 season at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 22 and 29 at Westwood Park in Lancaster. Tryouts will be for the 14U team. The Williamsville Outlaws finished third in the 2007 County of Erie Baseball Association Collegiate playoffs.

After finishing the regular season with a 6-6 record and losing a first-round playoff game, the Outlaws won three straight games to reach the semifinals. The Outlaws lost the semifinal game to top-ranked East Aurora, 5-2.

Members of the team are head coach Dick Lynch, Steve McDermott, Dan Lynch, Mike Krywcum, Alan Hibbard, Garrett Genovese, Mike Kane, Brian Karchensky, Zack Boron, Rob Neiss, Ryan Lynch, Alex Walkowski, Nick Derrico and assistant coach Paul Neiss.

The Riverside Soccer Club coach Hector Vasquez will hold tryouts for the U15 and U16 girls teams from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 and 21 and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19 at Erie Community College North Campus, 6205 Main St., Williamsville.

The Howard and Sandy Voss Memorial Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 at Glen Oak Golf Course, 711 Smith Road, East Amherst.

Registration and lunch are at 11 a.m. with the tournament starting at noon. Dinner, awards and basket raffles are scheduled for 5 p.m.

The cost is $150 per player or $525 per foursome. Dinner only is $50. All proceeds will go toward Meals on Wheels of WNY.

Tryouts for the Amherst Lightning Softball girls fastpitch travel teams will be held through Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Amherst Pepsi Center, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville.

The tryout dates are: Aug. 15 (rain date - all ages) and Aug. 18 and 19 (12u and 14u, 9 to 11 a.m.; 16u and 18u, noon to 2 p.m.).

In order to try out, you need to fill out a profile form and bring it along with a copy of your birth certificate.
