Revolution U-12 soccer rocks Crunch The Amherst Revolution U-12 Girls Soccer Club defeated the only team they had not beaten this year, the Delaware Crunch, 2-1, on Friday, Aug. 3. With the victory, the Revolution ended the year with a nine-game unbeaten streak and finished second in the WNY U-13A girls league with a 10-2-1 record. This was a hard-fought game where both teams played well. Goaltender Francesca Carra played a wonderful game, making several high quality saves throughout. Delaware scored first late in the opening half and seemed in control of the match early in the second half. However, Alicia Girard changed that, receiving a beautiful crossing pass from Angela Sobotka and letting go a low finesse shot that beat the sprawling Crunch goaltender just inside the left goal post. Midway through the half Carissima Cutrona, playing center defense, sliced through the entire left side of the Crunch team, finishing the run with a pretty left footer that found the back of the net. With the Crunch staggering, the Revolution hit two goal posts late in the game but never gave up the tying goal. Other Revolution players competing were Nika Berrafato, Alyssa Cartwright, Katie Cohen, Courtney Kramer, Margaux Gill, Sara Eichhorn, Kaitlyn Neese, Kaitlin Walsh, Shannon Doughty, Morgaine Houston, Hannah Dreger, Annie Garcia, Cathryn Mahon, and Christine Murphy. The team was coached by Brendan Murphy. |
