Promotions announced in police department

With the naming of a new chief of police comes promotions through the ranks.

At Monday's Amherst Town Board meeting, Stephen McGonagle was promoted to captain of the afternoon platoon.

He had been serving as lieutenant of the afternoon platoon. McGonagle joined the department in 1987.

Named lieutenant of the afternoon platoon was Theodore C. DiNoto, he had been serving as a detective. He joined the department in 1991.

His wife, JoAnn, is also a lieutenant in the Amherst Police Department.

The promotions were effective Tuesday.

Capt. David Hoy, who had been overseeing the afternoon platoon was appointed to the day platoon. Capt. Enzio Villalta, who was in charge of the day platoon, was named captain of the detective bureau.

Assistant Chief Timothy Green had been captain of the detective bureau for five years prior to being named assistant chief last month.
