Jeffrey L. Wade of East Amherst has been named to the board of directors for Presbyterian Senior Care of WNY, Inc. It provides housing and care for seniors in five facilities, including Presbyterian Village at North Church in Williamsville.

Shannon Trabert, member of Gamma Iota chapter of Delta Gamma at DePauw University, has been awarded the Gamma Iota Chapter Scholarship based on academic achievement and campus involvement. She is a graduate of Amherst Central High School.

The Amherst Lions Club has furnished a bedroom in the 102-bedroom Cornerstone Manor at the corner of North Street and Michigan Avenue in Buffalo. The shelter for homeless women and children-including battered women, drug abusers and ex-prisoners was needed to replace its former building which housed only 60 clients and was constantly having to turn people away. The Amherst Lions responded by donating nearly $1,500 to furnish a single-bed room at the new shelter. A plaque outside the room signifies that the room was donated by the Amherst Lions and carries the message, "A Place for Second Chances."

Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-Amherst, has announced a grant from the Senate for the Mental Health Association of Erie County. The funds, which total $25,000, will be used for their Inner I and Tell-It programs. With the grant, the Mental Health Association was able to provide mental health education services for more than 5,800 students in Erie County during the 2006-2007 school year.
