Rovers shuts out Ken-Ton Kickers, 5-0

The Amherst Rovers came out on fire and scored four goals before the Ken-Ton Kickers knew what hit them. The Rovers beat Ken-Ton in a travel C-North game 5-0, on July 16.

Allie Troncone played extremely aggressive offense early on and was rewarded with Amherst's first goal. She made her way past two defensemen and beat the goalie with a hard, low shot. She also got an assist on the third goal with a great leading pass.

Chelsea Stachura caught enough of a bouncing centering pass to beat the goalie and make it 2-0. She also had a nice charge up the right side that ended with a hard shot wide into the side of the net.

Mia Lafornaya beat the defense to a leading pass and then put it though the goalie's legs for the third goal. She came close to scoring several other times as well, shooting just wide.

Courtney Sugarman wreaked some havoc in front of Ken-Ton's net, and it resulted in Amherst's fourth goal when she took a centering pass from Audrey Parenti near the corner of the box and put it up high over the goalie.

The game settled down midway through the half and if you didn't know the score, you would've thought it was an even game as Ken-Ton mustered some significant pressure.

In the second half, Joy Thompson figured out how to beat the Ken-Ton goalie that came way out and intercepted the ball as Amherst tried to work it in close. She deflected the ball past the goalie and sidestepped her.

Amherst then used offense as defense to keep it in Ken-Ton's end for much of the remainder of the game.

Julia Struble came out of net in the second half to provide some fresh legs and did even more by playing the entire second half in the field. Meredith Parenti was a key in the extended pressure Amherst put on Ken-ton for much of the second half, always pushing the ball deeper into Ken-Ton's end.

Defensively, Chelsea Stachura had several monster punts from the goalie position in the second half, getting it all the way up to midfield and beyond.

Colleen Stelley let absolutely no one past her in the first half. Jade Brooks took everything Ken-Ton threw at her and sent it all right back at them.

Julia Newton played aggressive defense, challenging Ken-Ton attackers and coming out with the ball even when she was outnumbered. She also blocked a hard penalty kick.

Audrey Parenti caught Ken-Ton off guard several times with quick throw-ins to put an end to bouts of pressure.
