South grad coaches tennis at European Maccabi Games

Williamsville South graduate Lori B. Sabatose, a resident of Brockport, Pa., was the head coach for the United States boys and girls juniors and open men's and women's tennis teams at the 12th European Maccabi Games held July 2-13 in Rome, Italy. She was appointed to the position by the Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel.

Several of her athletes earned medals. Skyler Davis won silver in boys singles, and Davis and Todd Albert won bronze in boys doubles. Adina Neustein and Cait Druker won bronze in women's doubles, and Jon Leslie and Joe Agler won bronze in men's doubles.

Over 36 countries and over 2,000 athletes competed in the games. The next Maccabi Games will be in Argentina at the end of the year.

Sabatose played at South from 1984 to 1988 and then was a four-year starter from 1988 to 1991 at Clarion University. She has coached tennis at Clarion for the last eight years.

She was also an assistant tennis pro at Amherst Hills Tennis Club.

Sabatose also plays singles, doubles, and mixed doubles in USTA Middle States tournaments and is consistently ranked in the top five in her section since 1993. She also is a certified tennis professional.
