Safety is the reason for Klein sidewalks

The Amherst Town Board has recently acceded to the wishes of the residents of Klein Road to not install sidewalks between Paradise and Transit roads. One of the reasons stated in The Amherst Bee is the desire of the homeowners to continue "enjoying the country-type atmosphere" of this roadway.

It should be recognized that Klein Road has become a raceway for commuters traveling from the busy commercial areas on Transit Road to gain access to Youngs Road. The paved shoulders of this section of Klein Road are very narrow, making it hazardous for walkers, joggers and bikers. Children (dare not?) use Klein Road to walk to two nearby schools. The growth of traffic has made it increasingly difficult to turn onto Klein Road from the side streets such as where I live. The town should either install sidewalks or greatly extend the paved shoulders of Klein Road if it has regard for the safety of all of the residents of this neighborhood.
