Aspire Center for Learning students helped collect $1,452 that was donated to the Buffalo Zoo for the proposed new elephant house. The students and staff worked together through donating loose change, holding bake sales, raffles, and selling homemade chocolate elephant suckers.

The Amherst South Rotary Club presented scholarships to Jodi Battaglia and Nicolas Johnson, both Amherst High School graduates. The checks were presented at the July 18 Rotary meeting at Dandelions Restaurant.

The Williamsville Parent Teacher Student Association has honored nine graduates from the district's three high schools with awards. The awards recognize school activities, community service, scholastic ability, personal initiative, poise and communication ability. Honored were East students, Angelica Catalano, Adam Korn and Jacqueline Wong; North students, Sarah Bachwitz, Esha Dasgupta and Lauren Hall; and South students, Anna Diakun, Lisa Fronczak and Elaina Giolando.
