Village Artisans plans grand opening for July 26

One random day Debbie Steinbrucker started painting at home. Today she is the owner of Village Artisans in Williamsville.

With more than 20 years of experience in retail and nine in purchasing, Steinbrucker used that knowledge to form a business that features local artists, including her speciality of painted furniture.

Steinbrucker began her expression of art when staying at home with her children.

"There was a table in the basement, and I started painting it," she said.

Her natural talent led to the creation of more pieces. When the location at 5544 Main St., next to Village Desserts, became available, she made the decision to open a business.

The address had been a gift shop for several years, making it an easy transition for Village Artisans.

A plan five years in the making, Village Artisans offers a wide range of handcrafted gifts, Steinbrucker said.

A tour of the shop will take buyers through displays of baby gifts, home and garden items, pottery pieces, glassware and photography.

"Everything is made by local artists. It's great quality, handcrafted," she said.

Steinbrucker added that she describes the merchandise as home accessories for the everyday person.

The painted furniture pieces in the store are creations of Steinbrucker's. She said she "rescues" older pieces, fixes them up and repaints them.

"I live in the village, and it fits into being able to walk the village," she said about the location and atmosphere of the store.

The business opened on June 30 and will hold its grand opening celebration from 6 to

9 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at 5544 Main St.

The event will feature music by "Stonehouse Blues Band," refreshments and door prizes.

Throughout the year, Village Artisans will be featuring artist demonstrations, classes, and jewelry-making sessions for children.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
