Revolution U-12 soccer slays U-13 Dragons The Amherst Revolution U-12 Girls Soccer Club hosted the U-13 Clarence Dragons on July 10. Clarence was looking to avenge a recent loss to the Revolution on its home field. Unfortunately for the Dragons, the Revolution won 2-0. It was a sweltering hot evening but both teams came out running. The Dragons pressed the Revolution defense for all it was worth but goalkeeper Francesca Carra made several outstanding saves early to keep the game scoreless. Eventually, the Revolution broke out its patented passing game and tenacious defense and took over. However, the Dragon goalkeeper was up to the task, keeping the Revolution off the scoreboard. Eventually, Hannah Dreger stole the ball from a Clarence defender and rifled a hard shot off the right goal post. Fortunately for the Revolution, Katie Cohen pounced on the ricocheted ball and passed it to hot-footed Morgaine Houston, whose lefty kick found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Playing a strong team oriented game were Carissima Cutrona, Nika Berrafato, Shannon Doughty, Kaitlyn Neese, Kaitlin Walsh, Sara Eichhorn, Alyssa Cartwright, Christine Murphy, Alicia Girard, Annie Garcia, Courtney Kramer and Cathryn Mahon. In the second half, the Revolution continued tremendous ball control and defense, yielding no second half shots for second half goalkeeper Cathryn Mahon to stop. Still the Revolution held its precarious lead until Carra booted the ball past the out stretched hands of the Dragon keeper making it 2-0. The victory gives the youngest team in the league a 7-2 record, good for second place in the U-13 division. |
