Volunteer restores roads in Appalachian Mountains For two weeks, 16-year-old Eric Nill will work as a Landmark Volunteer, restoring miles of roads in the Appalachian Mountains. Nill, an East Amherst resident, began the program on July 15 and will finish on July 28. Through Landmark Volunteers, he will work on the Mohonk Preserve on the Shawangunk Ridge with a team of volunteers cleaning overgrown carriage roads and trails. He will be housed in a nearby church or school. A student at Williamsville North High School, Nill has dedicated many hours to community service, including Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House, the Food Bank of Western New York and the Amherst Center for Senior Services. He is the son of Gracelyn Tuoti and Jeffrey Nill. Landmark Volunteers is based in Sheffield, Mass., and is a nonprofit summer service organization, offering high school students and adults the opportunity to take part in community service programs. |
