The Amherst Garden Club will take a day trip to Canada to the winery of the Stoney Ridge Estate in Saint Catherine, Ontario. The members will view the wine making process, the vineyards and four Gardens. Tastings are part of the tour, the wines include red & white varietals, ports and ice-wines. The Amherst Recreation Department was the recipient of the Publication Award from the Niagara Frontier Recreation and Parks Society for its 2007 summer brochure. The awards were handed out on June 7 at the awards and recognition luncheon at the NOCO Pavilion Sheridan Park, Tonawanda.

Keith Kristich of Amherst has been named a 2007 recipient of a CSEA Judiciary Local 335 Scholarship. He is a 2007 graduate of Amherst High School and plans to attend Houghton College as an environmental science major. His mother Karen is a CSEA member and court reporter for Erie County.

The Amherst Museum will present its Discovery Summer Day Camp "Geology: Rocks and Soil" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 23-27 at the museum, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, for children ages 8 through 12. Pastor Peter Breitsch celebrated his 10th anniversary at St. John's Lutheran Church. A "Taste of St. John" brunch was held July `15 in his honor. Breitsch received his master's degree in theology from Lutheran Seminary in 1983 and served as pastor for 13 years in Hackensack, NJ before coming to St. John's.

Dr. Robert Kaprove of Williamsville was named past president of the executive committee for the National Kidney Foundation of Western New York for a term from 2007 to 2008.

Buffalo Church of Christ will hold a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville.
