'Major West' Braves pitching shuts down Cardinals

The Mathewson McCarthy "Major West" Braves once again got outstanding efforts from their pitchers to shut down the Cardinals, 7-1, to advance to the finals.

David Costanzo, Richard Patti and Sam Scime fanned 16 and allowed four hits. Tom Krasinski (single, double, triple, two runs, two RBIs), Jeremy Zgoda (single, double, two runs), Mark Glieco (single, triple, run, RBI) and Sam Scime (solo home run) led the Braves' offense. Other key contributors were Joey Couche (single, two RBIs) and Scott Kaempf (single, RBI).

Cardinal pitchers Austin Collins, Nick Courtney, and Mark Procknal recorded 14 strikeouts. Courtney (single, run), David Krasinski (single, RBI), Max Brightenfield (single) and Kellen Pembleton (single) led the Cardinals.

Braves 7, Yankees 1

The Braves relied on their pitching to get by a tough Yankee team in the quarterfinals.

David Costanzo and Richard Patti each collected seven strikeouts and scattered three hits.

Sam Scime did most of the damage for the Braves with a triple, home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Jeremy Zgoda (triple, RBI), Costanzo (double, run), Adam Demer (two runs, RBI) and John Carroll (run) helped the Braves' cause.

Noel Moran pitched well to keep the Yankees in it, recording seven strikeouts in four innings. Justin Downey tripled and scored for the Yankees while Sam Berke and Brad Hejmanowski collected singles.

Braves 9, Marlins 3

A trio of Braves pitchers combined to no-hit the Marlins in the third round of the playoffs. David Costanzo, Sam Scime and Richard Patti recorded 12 strikeouts.

Joey Couche (two singles, run, three RBIs), Jeremy Zgoda (single, triple, run, RBI) and Costanzo (single, run, two RBIs) led the Braves' offensive attack. Other Braves contributing were Tom Krasinski (double, two runs), Connor McKenna (single, three runs), Adam Demer (two RBI), Zach Fancher (triple, run) and Scime (single).

For the Marlins, Brett Baker scored a run and had two RBIs, Austin Baker scored and Nick Darling brought in a run with a bases loaded walk.
