Chief Moslow to be recognized at dinner The Amherst Police Department will hold a tribute to recently retired Chief John J. Moslow Jr. In recognition of his 32 years of service, a retirement dinner has been planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at Samuel's Grande Manor. Moslow began his career in 1975 with his appointment to patrol officer. In 1981 he was promoted to patrol lieutenant. From 1989 until 1999, he served as a captain in various capacities until his appointment as chief of police. He received two Amherst Police Merit Awards, in 1996 and 1997, and was named The Amherst Bee "Officer of the Year" in 1977. He also is the 2006 recipient of the National Conference for Community and Justice Award in Law Enforcement. During his tenure as chief of the police department, Amherst was consistently ranked as one of the safest large communities in the country. The department has credited his leadership in making the difference during investigations and emergencies, resulting in successful outcomes for both the Town of Amherst and its Police Department. "Undoubtedly, under Chief Moslow, the professional reputation of the Amherst Police Department was not only maintained but also enhanced," a representative for the department said in a statement to The Amherst Bee. For information, call 689-1351 or e-mail sforan@apd.ny.org. Tickets must be purchased by July 16. They will not be sold at the door. |
