Summer carillon concerts set

The 29th Annual Summer Carillon Concerts at Calvary Church, 20 Milton St., Williamsville, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, July 18 through Aug. 8.

Each concert begins with a performance on Western New York's only authentic carillon, a set of 44 tower bells, and continues at 7:45 p.m. with various instrumental and vocal groups.

The July 18 carillon performance will be by Sara and Ana Elias of Portugal followed by the Bar-room Buzzards Dixieland band. July 25 will be Tin-Shi Tam of Ames, Iowa on the carillon followed by Mir Ali and Ghetto Gitano on guitar. Aug. 1 carillon performer will be Charles Dairay of France followed by the Caledonian Pipe Band. The final performance on Aug. 8 will be Gloria Weblow of Williamsville followed by the Da Capo Saxophone Quartet.

The bells are best heard outdoors, when weather permits, so audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the concerts will be moved inside the church.

A television monitor on the ground level will allow audience members to see the carillonneur during the performance.

Admission for all concerts is free and refreshments will be available for purchase.
