Community grows through learning

When I was growing up, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Jainism and Buddhism were ideas in my geography book from countries far away and outside of my realm of existence. However, in our ever increasing pluralistic world, those parents who complained to the Williamsville School Board need to take heed. The more we know on a personal one-to-one level about these ideas, the better able we are to make a more informed decision about the people who subscribe to them.

Perhaps those of us who see the bigger picture and understand the great value from this learning experience which is available to us in our own back yard, need to be very wary of those parents who want to cocoon their children from this experience; for those who believe that "our way is the right and only way" represent a myopic view that demonstrates and fosters prejudicial thoughts that we can ill afford in this day and age.
