Sports briefs America's Fair will host the Dream Team Cheerleading and Dance Competition on Thursday, Aug. 16, in the Buffalo.com Grandstand. Cheer individuals, dance teams and cheerleading squads may enter to win awards in a variety of divisions, including ages 10 and under, 10 to 13, modified, junior varsity (high school) and varsity (high school). Entry forms must be received no later than July 31 and are available on www.americas-fair.org. A $10 registration fee per participant for dance and cheer teams and $15 per individual participant will be required. The winning squad will win tickets to see Corbin Bleu from Disney's High School Musical and Drake Bell from Nickelodeon's television series Drake & Josh, who will perform in the grandstand with Jordan Pruitt that evening. He used a pitching wedge to hit the ball 90 yards. David Devreux sank a hole in one at Audubon Golf Course on June 25. He used a 9-wood to hit the ball 90 yards. St. Pius X Padres from Getzville beat St. Christopher's, 20-17, in a Diocesan Catholic Youth Ministry Slow-pitch Co-ed Softball game on June 6 at Houghton Park. St. Pius X is a new team to the league. Matt and Aaron Dinderski, Mike Mayers, Jason Heim, Tim Beck, Jenna Shifferle, Kaitlin Butler, Natalie Vazquez, and Paiton Michael displayed great effort. The Padres beat St. Andrews, 21-5, on June 11. New players Lauren Fleming, Ashley Archambault, Krissy Flierl, and Karen Hartman contributed to the win. St. Pius pulled ahead in the last inning to defeat Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 4-3, at Hillview School on Tuesday, June 26. Jason Heim, Vazquez, Matt Dinderski, Alex Nero, Schifferle all had shining moments. The team is coached by Mike Gilchrist and Tom Dotkor. St. Pius plays July 9 against St. Greg's. Williamsville native Michael Cohen of Canisius College was recently named to the Atlantic Hockey Academic All-Star team. To be eligible, a player must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher in each semester of the academic year. The Williamsville North varsity hockey booster club will hold their sixth annual golf fundraiser tournament at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 at Willowbrook Golf Course, 4200 Lake Ave., Lockport. Golfers can arrive as early as 10 a.m. to practice with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Skill prizes include closest to the pin, longest drive, and a putting contest on the practice green. Lunch will be served during play and after play there will be dinner and prizes. The cost for an individual golfer is $115. A tee sponsor is $100. Dinner only is $35. The Howard and Sandy Voss Memorial Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 at Glen Oak Golf Course, 711 Smith Road, East Amherst. Registration and lunch are at 11 a.m. with the tournament starting at noon. Dinner, awards and basket raffles are scheduled for 5 p.m. The cost is $150 per player or $525 per foursome.
