Lou Gehrig Mets win two 'Minor' baseball games The Lou Gehrig "Minor" Mets defeated the Brewers, 14-8, in a close game. Steven Metzger, Jake Zurat, Kyle Spoth and Sam Barillari were all perfect from the plate. Plenty of power and speed were available as Dylan Birzon, Barillari and Metzger each contributed two doubles. Extra punch was also turned in by Alex Wanat, who collected two timely hits and scored two runs. On defense, Patrick Allen and Carter Wild turned in some fine defensive work as they demonstrated soft hands and fleet footwork to get several key outs. Mets 15, White Sox 9 The Mets slipped past the White Sox in the season's first five-inning game. Leading the charge for the Mets was the hard-nosed play of Ben Hingston, who literally took it off the chin early on in the game as a bad hop tattooed him on the chin. After leaving the game for a very short period, Hingston returned and had his best at-bat of the game in the sixth inning. With the game tied, Hingston stood in the batter's box and took about 10 hacks at the ball, fouling them all off before he finally laced a hit down the third base line. Carter Wild followed with a single, only to have the game called due to the time limit. The Mets had plenty of punch as Matthew Schrlau, Patrick Allen, Justin Jenneve, Kyle Spoth and Steven Metzger were each 3 for 3. However, the Mets only managed three extra base hits as Dylan Birzon, Jake Zurat and Spoth each had one double. Defensively, Hingston, pitching, and first baseman Alex Wanat made several tremendous plays for several challenging outs. Wild made several other sparkling plays. Brayden Homberger and Matthew Schrlau also played strong defensive games. |
