Tournament yields local winners

Master Gorino's Pil-Sung Tae Kwon Do, located in Amherst, recently hosted their annual National Invitational Tournament sponsored by Verizon Yellow Pages, on May 26.

The tournament, which is held every Memorial Day weekend, took place at Sweet Home High School. Martial artists, from beginners to Grand Master, traveled from around the United States to compete in forms, sparring, musical forms and weapons.

All Martial Arts Grand Champion trophies, awarded to competitors who placed the highest in forms, weapons and sparring combined, were presented to Beth Baglio, 14, of Kenmore and Lancaster resident, Mariana Sobczak, 21, both of Master Gorino's Pil-Sung Tae Kwon-Do.

In the musical forms competition Emma Smith won the child division and Julie Isch the adult division, both of Master Gorino's.
