.I want to congratulate all the members of the 2007 graduating class of Williamsville South High School. What a wonderful job they did with their speeches, especially the valedictorian.

.In response to the comment about Maple Road, this road is in poor shape because Erie County takes care of Maple Road. I've been calling for three years to get some potholes repaired in front of my house, because trucks actually shake my house. With nothing done in two years, I actually bought my own patch and patched the road in front of my house on my own. That's how our government seems to run, especially Erie County, and it's a shame that people in government are not held accountable anymore. All the people need to get together and fight all this nonsense.

.I just cannot believe all the people calling and complaining about the trees being cut down in Amherst. These are trees; they will grow back. Last week, one individual even compared it to someone getting a second opinion before surgery. It's a tree; it's not a human being. It will grow back. Get a life.

.Amherst Supervisor Satish Mohan and his apologists blame the town board for Satish's utter failure to deliver on even one of his pie-in-the-sky campaign promises. This is so unfair and untrue that Mohan has tried to blame others for his inability to deliver on impossible campaign promises. Also, he could do well to deliver on certain promises he made during the campaign that he, and he alone, can keep, number one being that he promised to work as supervisor for $1 per year. Has he kept that promise?

.When is someone going to do something about Main Street? It is slowly deteriorating. Trees are cut down or are half dead, bricks are a mess and weeds are growing. I don't fault the business community; they have put up flags, planted flowers and keep the fronts of their buildings looking nice. The village government is at fault. There doesn't seem to be a comprehensive plan. Less time maybe spent on farmers markets; let's cleanup Main Street.

.I'm very pleased to see that Mary Lowther won her re-election for mayor. She is not only the first woman to be mayor of Williamsville, but is an excellent, hands-on, ethical, hardworking and honest person who has done nothing but improve life for those of us blessed to live in the village. Thank you, Mary, for doing such a great job in creating so many different new activities and for making our village a better place to live. Congratulations.

.Did you know that Amherst does not have a noise control law during the day? I was just informed by a police officer that my neighbors can make all the noise they want; there is no law to protect me. This is ridiculous.

.When the center of a tree is destroyed, it will die within a year or two. Arborists know what they are doing and would not have healthy trees cut down. My concern is with the banking of mulch, 2-15 inches of the tree trunk. How much water does it take to soak through these 15 inches?
