Carlton P. Riegle, long-time volunteer Clarence firefighter
He had been residing at Elder- Wood Health Care at Oakwood in Williamsville. Mr. Riegle served 70 years with Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company, becoming president in 1963. A member of the company's fire police, he helped make chowder at their annual Labor Day picnic and parade. He was also drum major of the fire company's drum and bugle corp. He also served as president of the Clarence Center Cemetery and Harris Hill Cemetery Associations for many years until 2001. Born in Clarence Center, he was a graduate of Clarence Central High School. Mr. Riegle was a truck driver for Gorh Distributors for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. He also played semi-professional baseball as a left-handed pitcher and was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed fishing and playing euchre. Mr. Riegle is survived by his wife, the former Ann Preg. He is also survived by a son, Dennis C., five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made Monday, June 25 in (Amherst Chapel) Amigone Funeral Home. |
