Buffalo Seminary honors students Getzville residents Katie Meier-Davis and Aria Walfrand, seniors at Buffalo Seminary, were honored recently at the school's annual Class Day and Moving Up Exercises. Meier-Davis, who is the daughter of Drs. Scott Meier and Susan Davis, was the recipient of the Jean Wende McCarthy '31 Award, the French Language Award and the Madeleine Breinig Reid '33 Award. Presented by Drama/Fine Arts Chair Toni Wilson, the Jean Wende McCarthy '31 Award is given to a student who has made an outstanding contribution to theater in her four years at Seminary. The French Language Award, presented by Languages Department Co-chair Patrick Westhoff, recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in French. The Madeline Breinig Reid '33 Award, which is chosen by vote of the English Department, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated extraordinary facility of expression in written English. English Department Chair Robin Magavern presented the award to Meier-Davis. Walfrand, daughter of Jim and Cheryl Walfrand, received the Alumnae Association Award. Presented by Head of School Sandra P. Gilmor, the award is given to the student whose record, in the judgment of the faculty, shows a pattern of significant growth during her years at Seminary, indicating that she has met the school's challenge to develop her character and intellectual potential. Walfrand also was inducted into the Cum Laude Society. Meier-Davis plans to attend George Washington University in the fall while Walfrand plans to attend Union College. Alexandra Burger of Snyder, a junior, received the Suzanne Young Smith '63 Award and the prestigious Semper Fidelis Award. Burger was recognized for possessing an unwavering sense of values and devotion and loyalty to the Seminary. She is the daughter of Gary and Jennifer Burger. |
