Lou Gehrig Mets split recent 'AA' games

The Lou Gehrig 'AA' Mets scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Dodgers, 19-18, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Both teams were 9-1.

Carter Wild started the sixth inning rally with a leadoff single and was followed by a hard double by Jake Zurat, another single by Sam Barillari, and a fielder's choice on Steven Metzger. Brady Homberger added another single and was followed by Alex Wanat, who pounded another hard double, putting runners on second and third. With one out, Patrick Allen hit a grounder up the middle and as the pitcher fielded the ball, Homberger charged home in attempt to score the winning run. The Dodger pitcher made a great play throwing the ball home, only to have the hard slide of Homberger knock the ball loose for the winning run.

Offensively, both teams had some real standout hitters. Leading the Mets were Zurat, Barillari, Homberger, and Wanat, who each went 4 for 4. Defensively, there were many standout plays, led by Kyle Spoth and Wild as they each were involved in several impressive keys plays.

The Dodgers also should take their credit as Jason Phillips, Sam Kinerk, and Matt Slick each had four hits. The Dodgers also played excellent defense as they stole several hits from the Mets during the game.

Yankees 18, Mets 17

The Mets lost in seven innings. The Mets' Sam Barillari went 5 for 5. Carter Wild and Steven Metzger each added four hits. Standout defensive plays were turned in late in the game when Dylan Birzon gunned down a runner at home plate. Peter Pan had the biggest hit of the year.
