Big third inning lifts Mel Ott AAA' Red Sox over Athletics The Mel Ott "AAA" Red Sox kept their perfect season going, thanks in large part to a 10-run third inning on the way to an 18-8 triumph over the Athletics. The 14-0 Red Sox had a balanced offensive attack. Jeff Becker had three hits, two of which were doubles. David Lyskawa chipped in two hits and scored two runs, Josh Hammer scored three times, and Mitchell Ostrowski walked three times and came around to score twice. Hammer was also the pitching star, starting the game and recording three shutout innings to go with six strikeouts. The A's fought back, scoring their eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Red Sox's Jonathan Simon came on in the sixth and closed the game by retiring the side in order on a pop-up and two strikeouts. 'AA' baseball Reds 11, Yankees 9 The Reds won their third game of the season on a great team effort. They were led by the pitching effort of Kenny Basinski and Ryan Scero. Devin Miller and Brendan Irr each had two hits. The Yankees played a solid game and loaded the bases in the sixth inning to make the game close. They were led by Joey Spataro with two singles and Jacob Donn with a single and triple. 'A' baseball Red Sox 12, Blue Jays 3 The Red Sox defeated the Blue Jays on June 16 to run their record to 9-2-1. The Red Sox scored five runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Bam Ruggiero (two hits, two runs scored). After getting strong pitching from Andre Torrico and Joseph Torrillo who both pitched two scoreless innings, the Red Sox again exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning on hits from Justin Boucher (two hits, two runs scored), Dylan Kowalik, and Jacob Simmons. 'Minor' softball Heat 16, Racers 11 Ashley Decker got a hot bat, getting a pair of solid hits and helping the explosive offense of the Heat to a 16-hit attack. Both teams combined for nearly 30 hits during this game, with Jenna Patterson going 4 for 4 in a 16-11 hitter's clash. Patterson also made a terrific catch in the sixth inning and pitched well to earn the save. The first-place Heat stayed hot with a 7-2 record. |
