Semifinalistsnamedfor'KeepGoing'HallofFame Determination, perseverance, never-quit spirit - those are all attributes shared by the group of people who were announced as the top 100 semi-finalists in the search for the winner of the Energizer "Keep Going" Hall of Fame. Among those semi-finalists are Kate Herzog of Williamsville and Deborah Naybor of Alden. Herzog is a local school librarian. She is also a tutor and mentor. Her nominator calls her "the person who is the silent hero and the wind beneath the wings of all who graduate." Naybor spent time in Malawi, opening Mama Debi's House, the first free secondary school. The Christmas following Hurricane Katrina, Naybor gathered 1,200 toys, $4,000, 100 blankets and 37 new bicycles for families in Mississippi and Louisiana. Last winter, she shipped 200 snowsuits and jackets, 150 pairs of homemade mittens and 40 pairs of winter boots to families in Alaska. The "Keep Going" Hall of Fame was created in 2006 as a way to share the inspiring stories of people who live every day with the same spirit as the Energizer Bunny. The 100 semifinalists will now be entered in a second judging phase and narrowed to a pool of 10 finalists. One winner will then be chosen by public vote via www. energizer. com/ halloffame. The winner will receive $10,000 in cash as well as a $5,000 donation to the winner's charity of choice. He or she will also be honored at an induction ceremony on Sept. 6 in St. Louis, Mo., that will be attended by Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and "Keep Going" inaugural member Cal Ripken Jr. |
