North High School to have second principal in as many years
Tubbs has decided to accept a position in sales at Kyphon Inc. in Phoenix, Ariz., ending his career with the school district. "I will miss a lot about North, but in life you have to make tough decisions," Tubbs said about the job change. "This will be a completely new career path for me." He said he had not thought about leaving, but when Kyphon approached and pursued him, he was faced with the decision. "I want to make sure everyone knows this wasn't a snap decision ... it wasn't because North hasn't been good to me," Tubbs said. "My decision has nothing to do with my experience here. It has actually made it more difficult to make the decision." He said the opportunity in Arizona is too good for his family - financially as well - not to pursue. Prior to being named North principal, Tubbs was the assistant principal at Mill Middle School. He replaced William Krone, who retired after 30 years in the district During his year as North's principal, Tubbs dealt with some issues that affected his students, including underage drinking. But he always said those students do not represent the large percentage of students who follow the rules and excel at North. "The kids here are great," he said. "With 1,600 going through on a daily basis, there aren't many problems." Tubbs added that North is a great place for students, and he encourages them to take advantage of everything available to them. The Williamsville School Board has not named a replacement for Tubbs. His last day is July 11, but Tubbs said he would make himself available to the new principal to help with the transition. A moving date for Tubbs and his family has not been determined. The district has advertised the position. Applicants will be reviewed by a committee of teachers, administrators, parents and students. The committee will recommend final candidates to the superintendent and the leadership team for consideration. The district hopes to fill the position by Oct. 1. e-mail: jfinch@beenews.com |
