'Women Take Charge' seminar provoked from complaints of stalking in village

      Debbie Hanny, owner of Sweet Jenny's, no longer wanted her employees to work in fear after an unwanted customer repeatedly entered the store. The employees had been dealing with a man they described as a stalker who had been coming around the business leaving unwanted gifts and notes.

Activity center renamed to honor Rev. Bagley
      For his dedication to youth in Western New York, Hopevale Inc. has renamed one of its buildings on the Hamburg campus in memory of the Rev. Gary Bagley. The Father Gary J. Bagley Family Activity Center was renamed by the administration and the boards of Hopevale on June 13.

Pool closed until end of week
      Due to a pump failure, the Clearfield pool is expected to be closed until Thursday or Friday. Residents are encouraged to use the North Forest pool, 85 N. Forest Road, which was opened early in response to the closure of Clearfield.

North High School to have second principal in as many years

      On June 21, 2006, The Amherst Bee announced the hiring of Robert B. Tubbs as Williamsville North High School principal. Today, his resignation is being announced. Tubbs has decided to accept a position in sales at Kyphon Inc. in Phoenix, Ariz., ending his career with the school district.

Teens charged in car break-ins
      Two 17-year-old males were arrested Friday after being caught with property allegedly stolen from vehicles. Lt. Antonio Manzella responded to a call that two suspicious people were looking through vehicles at 4:50 a.m. on Mayfair Lane. The two suspects were located on North Forest Drive.

Second concession stand damaged
      Police have responded to a second break-in at a Little League concession stand. The overhead door at Lou Gehrig Park on Dann Road suffered $2,500 in damages when an unknown person broke in. It was reported on Saturday morning.

Meeting house to change purpose by deadline

      While both People Inc. and the Town of Amherst are anxious to move ahead with the lease agreement to change services at the Mennonite Meeting House, delays have plagued the plan. Building Supervisor Thomas Ketchum said the town is moving forward, but there have been some setbacks.

      The endorsement meeting of the executive board of the Erie County Independence Party followed the recommendations of the Amherst Selection Committee. Incumbent Highway Superintendent Robert Anderson, along with Town Clerk Sue Jaros, and Town Justice Geoffrey Klein were endorsed for re-election.

      The Amherst Conservative Party chose to endorse a mix of incumbents and challengers for the November election. Incumbents Robert Anderson was endorsed for highway superintendent and Geoffrey Klein for town justice.

WNY Karate Center students compete well in championships
      Adam Goldstein and Destinie Belter continue to improve their skills in karate. Students of WNY Karate Center, they achieved Grand Championships at recent martial arts tournaments. "They are tremendous competitors and very accomplished for their ages," said the owner, Master Jim Cvetkovski.

      Amherst police have reported that a man struck a woman as she left an ATM in the Getzville Plaza on Millersport Highway, then ran off with at least $20 she had just withdrawn. The robbery was reported at noon June 14.
