Williamsville At its June 12 meeting, the Williamsville Board of Education appointed Peter Ciarelli to the new position of assistant superintendent of technology services, effective July 23. Ciarelli is currently the director of technology at Westhill Central School District, a suburban district in the Syracuse area with 2,050 students. He holds a master's degree in music from Syracuse University and earned his bachelor's degree in music from Potsdam State College. In addition to being a certified music teacher, Ciarelli is a certified school administrator in New York State with experience in providing technology services for student learning. Prior to his present position, he was an assistant middle school principal in Westhill and a music teacher in the Cazenovia Central School District, where he taught for 22 years. He also serves as an adjunct lecturer at Cazenovia College. Ciarelli will be responsible for all facets of the district's technology program including long- and short-term planning, budget development, equipment and infrastructure, computer networks and applications, data systems, and professional development and training. "With the growing demand of continuously changing technologies in education and our world, we have selected a strong, knowledgeable leader for this vital position in our school district," said Superintendent Howard S. Smith. The district has four other assistant superintendents - finance and management services, exceptional education and student services, human resources, and instruction. Smith said Assistant Superintendent Anna Cieri had overseen the technology department, which included a director of technology. That position was removed. The position was part of the Board of Education's goals for the upcoming school year, Smith said. The annual salary for the position is $119,500. |
