Trio concludes season at states Three gymnasts from Greater Buffalo Gymnastic and Fitness Center in Getzville recently concluded their competitive season at the level 4 boys gymnastics state championships held in Binghamton, N.Y. Each turned in outstanding scores, places and performances. Zachary Neira of Amherst demonstrated outstanding talent and strength as he flawlessly executed his way to the top on two events. Not only did Neira turn in near-perfect scores on still rings (9.0) and parallel bars (8.8), but he also proved to be the best in the entire state on floor exercise (9.6) and vault (9.0). In addition, Neira walked away from the meet with a sixth place all-around finish, scoring a respectable 52.7. Teammate Daniel Hedges of Williamsville also proved that he, too, deserved to be on the state championship awards stand. With a score of 8.6, Hedges captured third place on pommel horse. Stepping up his scores, he also placed fifth on floor (8.9) and sixth on still rings (9.1). Just edging out his teammate, Hedges finished with a fifth-place all-around score of 52.8. Also competing for Greater Buffalo was Vincent Bilota. As a first-year level 4 competitor, Bilota demonstrated solid growth and performance. He had scores in the high 7s on high bar, floor and pommel horse. His highest score of the meet was 9.2 on vault. Bilota finished 22nd overall with a final score of 45.9. Neira, Hedges and Bilota are coached by Kevin Reynard, Judd Penetrante, and T.J. Hirsch. |
